Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I has now hinted at the possible release of the Kenya Secondary Certificate Education (KCSE) results before Christmas.
Speaking during the official launch of the Form One selection the CS said that there he will not sign off for the year prior to the release of the November concluded examinations.
“I will say merry Christmas or sign off before my work is done and that means that until the KSCE are finally out,” he said.
In an unprecedented turn events Matiangi released this years Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results much earlier than anticipated a move he says was aimed at stopping powerful cartels who were targeting the long marking time to influence the outcome of marks.
This year, 577,253 candidates sat for the examination in 9,158 centers across the country an increase of 54,383 candidates from the 2015 figure of 522,870 candidates who sat the examination.
There are 274,423 girls and 302,830 boys compared to 243,581 girls and 279,289 boys who sat the examination in 2015.
In the 2015 KCSE examination, 31.52 per cent of the candidates attained the minimum university entry qualification of C Plus and above, translating to 165,766.
Last year, 5,101 candidates, (0.98 per cent) had their results cancelled after they were found to have been involved in various examination malpractices prompting stringent measures, which were introduced by the government to curb cheating that, was eroding the credibility of national examinations in the country.
A total of 346 containers were set up in sub-counties for the storage of examination materials, a departure from previous practice where exams were stored in police stations.
