Recent calls by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho asking Cord co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula to allow Raila Odinga to be the coalition’s flag-bearer have infuriated the Wiper leader allies.
They are accusing their ODM counterparts of making utterances which could tear the Opposition apart, ahead of the 2017 elections.
Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr (Makueni), Robert Mbui (Wiper’s organising secretary), Daniel Maanzo (Makueni MP) and Peter Mathuki (East African Legislative Assembly legislator) yesterday accused ODM leaders publicly endorsing Raila as the Cord flag-bearer of being “irresponsible and lacking in wisdom”.
Kilonzo Jnr said such actions amounted to overstepping the mandate of a board tasked with managing affairs. “These are the comments that are creating discord. If everyone in Ford-Kenya and Wiper does the same we will have no coalition. There is a management board in place mandated to ensure fairness to all parties,” he said.
But Senator Johnstone Muthama blamed his Wiper colleagues of making similar demands. Kalonzo recently blamed him of advancing interests of ODM within the Cord coalition instead of those of Wiper, leading to a political storm in the party.
