Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) yesterday re-opened the Mihango-Kayole link road in Embakasi for public use following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s order.
The closure had affected more than one million people as the road serves as a link between Embakasi Central and Embakasi South sub-counties.
Yesterday, Governor Evans Kidero rescheduled his visit to the area after learning that National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale and some Nairobi MPs were also heading there to witness the re-opening of the road.
Duale took issue with the Governor for suing KDF and Interior Cabinet Secretary over the closure and digging of trenches saying he is fighting a losing battle.
“The problem is not about the road but land grabbing by the county government as they have demarcated the land at Embakasi Garrison land,” alleged Duale.
Kidero said the move was a big win for the residents of Eastlands as it would reduce traffic jams, shorten travelling distance necessitating fare reduction, enable trader access markets and increase property value.
