Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has told off those mocking the Luhya community for failing to rally behind one of their own during successive General Elections. He alleged a plot to portray the community as divided for fielding many presidential candidates, saying every aspirant has a right to vie.
Speaking in Nakuru during an event hosted by Law Society of Kenya Rift Valley branch on Sunday evening, Mudavadi defended Bunguma Senator Moses Wetang’ula’s declaration that he will vie for presidency next year, saying he is only exercising his democratic right.
“During the last election, the Central region had (President) Uhuru Kenyatta, Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth and Paul Muite contesting the presidency.
They didn’t go to the boardroom to decide who to support as that decision was left to the electorate,” he said. “People even forget that Senator Orengo at one time ran for the presidency against Raila Odinga but nobody said the Luo community is divided.”
The community has been under pressure to front one presidential candidate. Mudavadi also revealed he was in talks with Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot and other like-minded politicians with a view of forming a formidable team to face off with Jubilee in next year’s election.
