Four suspected terrorists were on Saturday killed in an ambush by a combined security operation in El-Wak, Mandera county.
Four AK-47 rifles with 90 bullets, four magazines, five mobile phones, one pocket phone, Somali Army jungle jackets were recovered from the suspects.
According to police, the men were planning attacks against high-value targets including the El-Wak police camps. The area is near the porous Kenya-Somalia border. North Eastern regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh said the slain men were members of al Qaeda affiliated al Shabaab terror cell. Terror group al Shabaab has been attacking police stations in the region stealing guns and vehicles. In April, the group attacked Diff Police Station in Wajir South when three officers were wounded and a police vehicle stolen.
Officials said around 100 militants were also involved in the raid. The gangs cross from Somalia for the before melting back after their mission.
