Deputy President William Ruto completed his tour of the Coast region yesterday with an assurance for goodies in coming days and wooed residents to re-elect the Jubilee government in next year’s election.
In his last rally at Tononoka Grounds, Ruto told residents from the region to chose whether to support “an initiative-driven government” or remain with the an opposition full of rhetorics.
In what is seen as a vote raid from a region considered as an Opposition stronghold, Ruto showered the locals with goodies that are likely to change the political arithmetic in the vote-rich region.
Ruto, who was also on a mission to drum up support for the newly formed Jubilee Party, officially inaugurated the Coast Jubilee presidential campaign team that will be led by Malindi North MP Gideon Mung’aro, Suleiman Shahbal, Naomi Shaban and Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya.
The Deputy President said it was evident that four years down the line, the Jubilee score card was healthy with multiple development projects having been initiated and realised.
“The Jubilee administration manifesto is based on development. Cord has no agenda for the people of Kenya,” he said.
Ruto added that development projects at the Coast amount to approximately Sh100 billion.
“I want to ask the Coastal people, do you want a government of rhetorics or will you elect a government with development agenda for the people?”he asked.
Ruto said infrastructure is at the heart of the Jubilee transformation agenda among them roads, railways, ports and harbours and airports.
He added that the government has issued over 1.2 million title deeds this year alone and an estimated 5.2 million people have been connected to power.
Ruto announced among other things that Sh42 billion has been set aside for Mzima Two Water Pipeline that will provide water to Kwale and Mombasa counties as well as Sh14 billion which he said the government has set aside for construction of Mwache dam that will provide water for Kasemeni and Mwavumbo areas of Kwale.
The deputy president also announced that the government will soon announce tenders for tarmacking of three key roads — Kwale-Kinango road, Samburu-Kinango road and Mariakani-Kinango road.
Mvurya said the time had come for Coastal people to change their style of politics and ensure they are directly linked to the government of the day to achieve development.
“Time has come for the people of Mombasa to make a political stand and work with the government of the day,” said Mvurya.
Other leaders who had accompanied the Deputy President include Kwale Women’s Rep Zainab Chizuga,Lungalunga MPs Khatib Mwashetani (Lungalunga), Gonzi Rai (Kinango)and National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale.
