An Administration Police commander in Likoni, Mombasa county and two of his juniors have been interdicted following neglect of their duties when handling the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
Theophilus Mutua received the interdiction letter for failing to assign his juniors to man containers where the exams had been stored at Likoni deputy county commissioner’s office.
Their interdiction follows a visit by Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) chairman George Magoha who established that the container had been left unmanned by the officers who had been assigned the night shift duties. In Nyamira, the government has replaced all officers who were supervising the KCSE exams at two centres in Kisii and Nyamira counties following alleged examination malpractices.
Examination officers at Gianchore Mixed Secondary School in Nyamira and St Charles Lwanga Gesero Secondary in Kisii were changed after supervisors manning the centres mistakenly opened the Geography Paper One instead of the Kiswahili Fasihi paper which was to be done first.
While in Bungoma, police are holding seven Form Four candidates and four invigilators of St Peters Sang’alo Secondary School for engaging in exam cheating. Among those arrested include the school principal after they were found with materials which used to aid candidates in the ongoing KCSE exam.
At the same time, the government has vowed to take disciplinary action against five invigilators from Kiambu who failed to turn at an examination centre.
Principal secretary State Department for University Education Prof Colleta Suda (pictured) who had made an impromptu visit was shocked to find only five out of the 10 invigilators assigned to man their station with over 150 candidates.
