A woman accused of sexually molesting and infecting her 10-year-old grandchild with the HIV virus was arraigned in a Mombasa court yesterday.
She was charged with sexually and indecently assaulting the minor. This was after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko issued orders that Mwana Kombo Hassan and her husband Fadhili Ramadhan who were being investigated for claims of sexually molesting two minors be charged with the offences.
Hassan faced an additional charge of willfully and knowingly infecting a child with HIV. Hassan, who appeared before Shanzu principal magistrate Diana Mochache, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The minors aged 10 and 11 were allegedly left in the care of their maternal grandparents for more than three years after their parents separated.
The two children have have since been rescued to a children’s home. Hassan was remanded at Shimo La Tewa Prison awaiting hearing on November 18.
