The National Police Service failed to adhere to recruitment regulations during the recently concluded hiring of officers, a report by the Kenya National Commission of Human Rights (KNCHR) shows.

The report released yesterday says; “While the regulation of the recruitment and appointment provides a 90-day period for recruitment from the advertisement stage to the entry into training institution, the section was not adhered to as the advert ran on April 22 and recruits reported on April 29,” said the KNCHR chief executive Patricia Nyaundi.

She added that the continuous lack of adherence to follow the two tier process means that achieving professionalism at NPS would remain a pipe dream.

The commission also observed that measures to ensure gender parity were not adequate during the recruitment.

However, Assistant Inspector General of Police Patrick Lumumba justified the non-compliance, saying the recruitment was the most free and fair exercise carried out by the service.
