Seth Onyango @SethManex President Uhuru Kenyatta has moved to end the friction between Interior Cabinet secretary Joseph Nkaissery and his predecessor Joseph ole Lenku.
Speaking directly to the two when he visited late politician William Ole Ntimama’s home in Lavington, Nairobi, the President urged them to work together. “Nyinyi ni watu ya jamii moja (you two belong to the same community) and you must work together,” he told Lenku when the two had a brief chat.
Lenku assured the President that there was no rift between them and termed media reports as false. “There are no issues between me and the CS…these are just media rumours,” he said. Lenku is campaigning to replace Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye in next year’s election.
But Nkaissery, who has good working relations with Nkedianye, is reportedly working with MCAs to consolidate the governor’s support in the county. This seemed to have irked Lenku who is the immediate former Interior Cabinet secretary.
But the two leaders yesterday met in a rare show of unity and dismissed media reports that there was bad blood between them. Lenku promised President Kenyatta to deliver the Kajiado governor’s seat to Jubilee.
This comes barely days after Kikuyu elders endorsed him for the seat. In a traditional ceremony in Kitengela, over 100 elders promised to support Lenku’s candidature in the next General Election.
