After denying Kenya gold in the women's 3,000m steeplechase, Bahrain’s Ruth Jebet brought business in Eldoret town to a standstill when she landed at Eldoret International Airport today
Jebet claimed the steeplechase crown with a dominant performance at the Rio Olympic Games in an Olympic record time of 8 minutes :03.28 seconds and despite featuring for a foreign country, she was celebrated like any other Kenyan. Family and friends lined up at the Eldoret International Aiport on Friday afternoon to welcome her with a convoy of vehicles, carrying the queen passing through the streets on its way to Kapsabet for celebrations. Jebet, who is also the Asian 3,000m steeplechase champion, was delighted to have won gold for Bahrain, having denied Kenya's Hyvin Kiyeng victory. Jebet said that she decided to come home to see her parents first before she leaves for Bahrain tomorrow.
