The Speaker of the Senate Ekwee Ethuro has recalled Senators from recess to a special sitting of the House today afternoon to consider a number of issues and bills that are pending.
According to a notice sent from the Speaker’s office, the sitting that will start at 2.30 pm was requested by the Senate Majority and Minority leaders, with the support of the requisite number of Senators and in pursuant of Senate Standing Orders 29.
Part of the business to be handled includes deliberations on the report of the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee on matters relating to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
On Tuesday, the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee on the IEBC concluded its sittings and came up with a report that will now be tabled before the two Houses. The Senate is later expected to adjourn until Tuesday, September 13, when it will continue with its regular sittings.
