If the Jubilee Party fronts a candidate other than Mike Mbuvi Sonko, the Nairobi governor seat could be a three-horse race between incumbent Evans Kidero, the Senator and the third candidate.
According to latest findings by TIFA Research, Kidero is still the front-runner candidate for the seat with support levels of 36 per cent followed by Sonko with 30 per cent leaving a significant swing vote of 34 per cent of voters who are undecided.
“The report also shows should Sonko run on an independent ticket, his supporters would still vote for him since they believe he is the most development conscious candidate with 79 per cent of voters saying he has brought development over Kidero’s 64 per cent,” TIFA director Maggie Ireri said.
Water Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa, who is the latest entrant to a growing list of aspirants for the seat has one per cent support even though he has not declared his intention to vie while Johnson Sakaja, Dennis Waweru, Margaret Wanjiru all have three per cent each.
While Sonko has declared his intention to run for governor, 39 per cent say they would vote for him in the absence of a strong contender whereas 31 per cent remain undecided while nine per cent would vote for Elizabeth Ongoro.
“Cord Coalition and Jubilee share the city equally with 38 per cent support each from the 719 correspondents interviewed while 43 per cent remain undecided for the Women Representative preference, Esther Passaris with 28 per cent and Rachel Shebesh with 20 per cent,” she said.
Ferdinand Waititu leads the pack in Kiambu County with 49 per cent of respondents saying they would vote in his favour while incumbent William Kabogo trails with 22 per cent and 18 per cent still remain undecided.
“While Kabogo’s supporters indicate their candidate has a track record of good performance, Waititu’s support comes from what respondents view as change from the current governor,” said Ireri.
