A group of Western Kenya politicians have welcomed the endorsement of Water and Irrigation Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa by their Mt Kenya region counterparts to contest the Nairobi governor’s seat in next year’s elections. They pledged to give him their backing and mobilise people from Western Kenya to vote for him.
“We have no objection if he (Wamalwa) is fronted to run in the city,” said Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka. The leaders were addressing the press at Harambee House after meeting Chief of Staff Joseph Kinyua in what they described as a meeting to discuss development matters.
Lusaka and his Vihiga counterpart Moses Akaranga led the team that included 15 leaders from the region to the meeting also attended by Wamalwa. The MPs included Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), John Walukhe (Sirisia), Ayub Savula (Lugari), Yusuf Chanzu (Vihiga), Reginald Wanyonyi (Bungoma), Janet Nangabo (Trans Nzoia ) and Suleiman Murunga (Kimilili).
Others were Dan Wanyama (Webuye), Malulu Injendi (Malava), Mary Emase (Teso East), Lazaro Wafula (Saboti) and Bunyasi Barasa (Nambale). Last Sunday, MPs Ferdinard Waititu (Kabete), Kanini Kega (Kieni), Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East) and Jude Njomo (Kiambu Town) endorsed Wamalwa for the city’s top job, a move that was dismissed by a section of Nairobi Jubilee MPs.
